Mongo's World online shop

I started an online T-shirt shop to sell my designs. Most of the designs are surf related. I’ve tried to give them a retro feel of the days of hot rods, beach boys, and Big Daddy Roth. I plan on making designs for the Great Lakes, and Ocean surfers. I will eventually branch out into skateboarding and white water kayaking. Check it out all you cool cats before it’s too late!

Surf like a girl

The local surf club I belong to already has a logo, but the girls in it thought it to be to manly. I then proceeded to make a logo for the girls. This is what I came up with.

Colored pencil drawing of a sunflower

My wife loves sunflowers, so I made this drawing for her.

Surfing... It's a gas

More surf art. I've been asked what drug was I on when I produced this stuff? That question gets asked a lot. I don't think I'll touch that question.

Surf Dog

A crazed (Roth style) rottwieler with a big spiked collar, a can of beer in his hand, cigarette in his mouth, and a Hawaiian shirt riding goofy foot on a crappy little lake Erie wave... wonder who that could be? It’s Wedgie. A friend of mine. He inspired this piece. Brake your chain to go surfing.

Drop In

I skate and I surf. For a couple of years my friends and I had a building in Collinwood on Clevelands Eastside. We built a half pipe in it, and would skate hang out and wait for Lake Erie to churn up some waves. We also would throw a party now and then. I created this piece of artwork for the parties. To use on flyers/invitations when we would invite guests to the Shack. This design was also used on T'shirts, and other clothing.

Monkey, Tropical Birds, and Butterflies oh my!

Here is a mural I painted in a babies room. I did what the ownner wanted. He wanted big fluffy clouds. He wanted two trees. He wanted a monkey, tropical birds and butterflies. I put it all in a pot and baked it up. This is what came out. I painted it in Acrylic paints using a brush, and airbrush. It took 5 days working 6 hours a day. The owner of the house seemed happy. He said he could sit in that room all evening with a beer and relax staring at the picture. He wished he had it painted in his bedroom.

American Bald Eagle

A women called me up out of the blue aking for a watercolor painting of a eagle, statue of liberty with fireworks, and a flag. She wanted to have it made for her boy friend. I hope he liked it?

Buckeye Brewing Company beer lable

This illustration was made for the Buckeye Brewing Company. The brewkeeper was making a powerful brew. He wanted a large muscular cyclops ponding the heck out of his Marzen Ale to show how much more powerful it was compared to his other beers. This is what I came up with. It was done in color pencil.

German Knight

This German Knight was done during the late 80's. No client. I jus felt like making a knight. I enjoyed creating this piece. It brings out the kid in me. I always liked armor as a child, espeacially fantasy illustrations. As a kid I wanted to be the next Boris, or Frazetta.

The Wagner Surf Club.

This is the logo I created for the Wagner Surf Club in Cleveland Ohio. We are all a bunch of kooks who surf in the crappiest surf conditions on the planet. I tried to reflect that in this logo.

Dragon in the hand

A fantasy illustration I did on a slow day at the office. I wanted to create a powerful image of a dragon, and this is what I wound up with.

Surfer Girl

This illustration started out as a colored pencil drawing and quickly turned into a photoshop illustration. It was around the time I was learning photoshop at my home, and was merging the two worlds together of digital and organic mediums such as Acrylic, Water Colors, and Pens, and pencils. I think it speaks for it's self.

The Sand Dunes of Hatteras mural

I paint murals in people’s homes. This group of images is of a mural I painted in a Gold Coast home in Cleveland near the lake. The gentlemen who contracted me to paint the images of sand dunes wanted to feel as thou he was walking through the dunes to the beach. He wanted it to look like Hatteras in North Carolina near Frisco beach.

Lake Surfing

I surf on Lake Erie during times of the year when the winds blow across the Great Lakes producing ridable waves for us lowly lake surfers. The lakes are often polluted by sewage, and chemical run off after heavy rains. The time when there is surf is usually very cold. Despite all these annoyances I still manage to have a great time. Lake surfing inspired these two pieces I recently made.

Blue Room

Here is a water color I painted in 2002. Up until then most of the work I did artistically was commercial oriented. I would create whatever the customer wanted without creating anything I was interested in. I would create ads, illustrations of products, exploded views of parts and machines. Instructional manuals. I felt more like a pencil pusher then an artist. In the year 2002 was around the time that I became self aware or a better way of saying this is I woke up. I started to truely enjoy life. I began creating, living for my self. Life was no longer gray any more.
